Long Distance Private Ambulance Transfers

Every year, MET Medical makes thousands of road journeys. These range from 20-minute drives to long journeys from Lands End to the Scottish Highlands or even as far as Spain.

Many of the longer-distance ambulance journeys we undertake involve relocating elderly relatives closer to their families or helping patients who either forgot to buy travel insurance or whose travel insurance would not cover their repatriation after an injury or illness abroad.

In every case, the team draw on over a decade of experience as part of a well-oiled machine. We know what works, and we know how to manage the challenges that are associated with long-distance journeys.

Did you know our ambulances are fitted with fridges and carry hot water? This means we can ensure a range of healthy snacks and food, as well as hot and cold drinks, throughout the journey. We have special pressure mattresses that transform an otherwise relatively firm stretcher bed into an enveloping cushion! We also have tablets that we pre-load with movies or documentaries and a music playlist where needed.

If you instruct us to transport an elderly patient, you can expect us to ask lots of questions about their health. Hence, we are fully prepared with staff that are appropriately qualified and the proper medical and nursing supplies. As well as asking about health conditions and medications, we also ask questions like what they used to do for a living, whether their partner is alive or what they used to do, hobbies, interests, favourite films or television. All of this helps us ensure a patient-centred experience which goes smoothly and turns a potentially difficult and challenging journey into a more enjoyable one.

All of our ambulances are double-crewed, meaning there is a driver and attendant. On very long journeys, we may also have a third person to ensure that drivers do not exceed safe driving restrictions. At all times, the attendant will be in place for the patient’s comfort and safety.

Everything was very easy to organise from the initial enquiry and quote to the trip. It had been a stressful few weeks, but MET made the transport element one less thing to worry about especially as it was a 4 hour journey. Would recommend them for ambulance transfers.
